R.I.P. David Harper.

David Harper, the brightest, funniest, and most social guy I have ever known, who also happened to be a founding member of the freaky executives, passed away last month from liver failure.

He will be missed and remembered, for his wit, his compassion, and his enormous talent.

I Love you, Dave.

Wow. I remember David Harper from Albany Middle School, 8th grade. He was in my cooking class. A very witty guy who could put you down and make you laugh at the same time. Later I remember him, not from the Freaky Executives but from a band called Oblivion Breakfast. I can still see him singing "I Want a Girl with a New Wave Hair Cut" at the Berkeley Square.

Yes, liver cancer sucks. I hope he wasn't in pain and kept his bizarre sense of humor.

      devastating news.

dude, dave was in OBLIVION BREAKFAST??!! why did i not put that together?? must have been all that nitrous oxide i did.......

my heartfelt condolences brother P., please let the rest of the crew know my thoughts and prayers are with you all. nothing quite makes one feel old as hearing about one of the serious old school homies passing on before their time.

i'm feeling some cliche bubbling up from inside, something about "old musicians never die, they just join that great jam session in the sky..."

Yes - I have what you are requesting. I sure remember the Freakies, and you Pio. Dave was way grand to play w ith and be around. I founded Behold Wyoming, and I believe via Tony Moffitt - another Berkeley kid - we stole Dave from your band!@ Sorry about that - but his talents shone as lead vocalist! I remeber him (witrh Freakies) singing from his wheelchair after motorcycle incident! What a trooper!

Oh my god.....I used to hang out with David when he was in Oblivion Breakfast cus my friend Kaz Sasaki was a guitartist in that band. Me and my friend Carol saw them at the Stone and I remember the song about the drummer being old cus he went to El Cerrito High like me and Kaz but he graduated in the 50's! I used to joke with Dave cus my brother's name is David Harper and how he was like the 4th person I had met with that same name in the Bay Area.

I remember one time he came and hung out with Kaz at Carol and my apartment almost the entire night in South Berkeley, doing illicit substances and getting neck cramps from pogo'ing to some Vandals. God, he was such a great guy, it's so sad to me to think he is gone. He must be missed by so many!

I think I am still in shock. I can't seem to really cry or anything, and I get really mad at him, and then i get angry at myself, than pissed at his parents, who never called anyone he knew, during the last month of his life, than I just remember how much be brought to me. he was a gift, this funny, beautiful man. At least I got to live with him as a roommate for a while before he left.
yes! malcom i remember the day he said he was going to your band! but he said "you guys are too serious for me! I need more zaniness!"
you guys were perfect for him. I remember seeing him with you and thinking "wow".

      I think I'll get a tattoo now since i can't cry.

man, is that what you do when you can't cry? you must have been a viking in a past life. i've never had problems crying - otherwise my whole body would be covered in tattoos. except lately this weird thing happens that when i'm supposed to cry - i laugh instead. i think i have a wire loose upstairs.........i lost a very close friend in 94 and it never occurred to me to get a tattoo to remember her by. i'm going to have to revisit that issue........
